Golf in Florida Florida’s boasts more than 1,000 courses catering to every skill level and a climate encouraging year-round play. Although there are top courses throughout the state, the following areas are making the largest impact.
Tampa Bay/Orlando Tampa Bay/Orlando features over 150 courses for any level or price range including the Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Grand Cypress Villas. Other significant courses include the Copperhead Course (home to the PODS Championship), the Bay Hill semi-private club (hosting the Arnold Palmer Invitational), and the World Woods Golf Club (with two Tom Fazio-designed courses)..
Jacksonville Jacksonville is home to 68 courses, the PGA and Senior PGA tour headquarters, and the world-famous TPC at Sawgrass, featuring the infamous 17th island green, the most photographed hole in golf. Nearby World Golf Village, near St. Augustine, is home to the World Golf Hall of Fame, along with the Slammer and the Squire Course, designed by Bobby Weed, in conjunction with Sam “The Slammer” Snead and Gene “The Squire” Sarazen, and the only design collaboration between Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, the King and the Bear.
Miami/Palm Beach The PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens offers five tournament caliber courses, all ranked by Zagat for “America’s Top Courses” and hosts the Honda Classic. The Doral Golf Resort, recognized by Travel and Leisure Golf Magazine as Florida’s Best Golf Resort, 2007, features The Great White, designed by Greg Norman, and The Blue Monster, whose famous 18th hole, with its signature fountain, was ranked by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World.
